Growing up, I had a few dogs. However, I never realized how much work and time goes into having a dog until I adopted Nibblet in college. I struggled a lot with depression and mental health in college, and I had always heard that pets can help by being a companion and positive partner. I adopted Nibblet when she was 8 weeks old (such a tiny baby!). I had no idea what I was in for with raising and training a puppy! With the help of my college roommate, I slowly learned how to parent Nibblet through her younger years. Throughout the years, I have learned what food works for her, what treats work for her, and what toys she likes.
Nibblet is now 6 years old and still as cute as ever as well as my best friend. These are some of her favorites that I always get for her!
Food:
I found out a few years ago that Nibblet is predisposed to getting bladder stones. She had surgery to get multiple stones removed and now has to be on a special prescription diet. This is the food that my vet recommended and prescribed for her, and she has been doing much better ever since.
Hill’s Prescription Diet c/d Multicare Urinary Care Chicken Flavor Dry Dog Food
Treats:
Zesty Paws Allergy Immune Supplement
Even though Nibblet is on a prescription diet, I like to give her these treats to add an extra precaution. She also loves them! I give her two every day.
As Nibs get older, she is starting to have more joint pain and arthritis. I noticed that she was starting to do better at our house in South Carolina, because it was only one floor. Our house in Kansas, however, is a tri-level, so lots of stairs! I give her two of these chews every day to help ease her pain in her joints.
Nibblet’s favorite bone EVER. She has probably 12 of these bones laying around the house, and she always chooses a particular one to chew on each night. I used to give her rawhides when she was younger, but I learned that rawhide can be harmful if they are eating big pieces of it. These bones are great because she doesn’t get large pieces of them and they last forever. She also loves the peanut butter filling (even though that part doesn’t last very long!)
Toys and Accessories:
TUFFY – World’s Tuffest Soft Dog Toy
Since Nibblet sharpens her teeth on bones every day, I have to buy her some tough toys in order for them to last more than a day. This brand is my favorite, because some of these toys have lasted years with her. So worth it!
I cannot recommend a harness for dogs enough, at least with Nibblet. No matter how much puppy school she went to, I could not break her of constantly pulling on her leash during walks. I love that harnesses are an easy way to stop her from pulling without hurting her. The mesh ones are my favorite, because they are easy to put on and to wash.
I have gone through so. many. beds. in my time with Nibblet… Whether she threw up on it, the cats peed on it, or she chewed through it… Safe to say I have spent a significant amount of money on dog beds! I finally decided to do my research and find one that was actually waterproof and washable. I have been using this bed for her for multiple months now, and it has held up great!
